fdapFDAP Programmes

The Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FDAP) is the professional body for the substance use field, works to help improve standards of practice across the sector and is part of NAADAC. FDAP offers a range of training courses - online, distance learning and face-to-face - aimed at developing the competence of workers and managers in line with the DANOS-based competence framework and relevant workforce development targets.

Human Performance has been working extensively in the substance misuse sector for the past eight years supporting organisations such as Alcohol Concern; Positive Futures; Swanswell Trust Drug Solutions; Crime Concern and NACRO, as well as numerous DAAT’s across the UK to develop their workforce standards and competencies in line with the DANOS 2012 standards. All facilitators of Human Performance EDI Endorsed Qualifications are exciting, creative and innovative facilitators of experiential learning with over 25 years experience of successful senior management responsibility and have been extensively involved in the delivery of DANOS Performer since 2002 within the substance misuse sector and understand the unique role carried out by drug professionals.

The EDI/FDAP Certificate in Supervisory Management & Leadership Techniques is an EDI Nationally Accredited three day training programme leading to a Level 3 Qualification. The programme was commissioned by FDAP and has been specifically designed for managers and supervisors who have line management responsibility for other drug and alcohol professionals. No previous qualifications are required to gain access on to this workshop, although candidates must have, or have had, line management responsibility for at least one other employee.

The qualification is based around four DANOS units and addresses significantly the two Management & Leadership National Occupational Standards of Unit B06: “Provide leadership in your area of responsibility” and Unit D06: “Allocate and monitor progress & quality of work in your area of responsibility”. In addition, the programme covers areas of the Learning & Development Unit L20: “Support competence achieved in the workplace” and the Community Justice Unit F309: “Support and challenge workers on specific aspects of practice”.

The programme is open to anyone in the field - but is available at reduced rates to FDAP members and the employees of corporate affiliate agencies. The following organisations have attended the FDAP/EDI Qualification either as an Open Programme or by commissioning a programme to be run in-house:

The FDAP Certificate in Supervisory Management & Leadership Techniques - Level 3 is an EDI nationally endorsed three day programme leading to the achievement of a Level 3 EDI Vocational Qualification and which addresses the core competences for managers of drug and alcohol professionals. This programme focuses on four key National Occupational Standards (NOS) and allows candidates to develop their own competence against those identified units.

Target Audience

The FDAP Certificate in Supervisory Management & Leadership Techniques - Level 3 is designed for managers and supervisors who have line management responsibility for other drug and alcohol professionals. No previous qualifications are required to gain access on to this workshop, although candidates must have line management responsibility for at least one other employee. A written assignment - reflecting upon your line management responsibility and evaluating your current skills against best practice - has to be produced following attendance on the workshop element of this programme and therefore previous line management experience, as well as good written communication skills, is essential.

Programme Aims

The FDAP Certificate in Supervisory Management & Leadership Techniques - Level 3 aims to increase a candidate’s knowledge and understanding in the principles of management and leadership to enable them to competently and effectively line manage drug and alcohol professionals. This programme provides skills development to support the future achievement of the Open University and FDAP Professional Awards for Drug & Alcohol Practitioners.
